h2_test: ([DW] coming soon)
So, there's this shiny new thing going on called Dreamwidth. I've been helping out with testing and watching all of the 'magic' build this cool thing that is just COOL!

[livejournal.com profile] foxfirefey put together a really great collection of information about what Dreamwidth is and isn't here. Rather than completely reiterate, I'll pull out a few of the cool features:

* splitting the 'friends' list into 'access' and 'read', meaning that people who can read your locked content are not necessarily the same people that you read daily/weekly/whatever. They *can* be, but don't *have* to be.

* 25-character limit usernames (instead of 15)

* the ability to import your journal from another journaling site to Dreamwidth - including comments, which will be attributed to the corresponding OpenID identifier, giving the original commenter control over their content. *g*

* NO ADS. Period. NONE.

* Nudge is dead. Like, forever. There is no such thing on Dreamwidth.

And those are just what there is planned for the Open Beta Launch, which, by the way, happens to be 30 April 2009!!

What does that mean? First, that means that the Seed Accounts will be on sale - only 400 of them, for $200USD each - more about those in the link about the Launch. Second, that folks will be able to join either by purchasing a paid account or using an invite code. Shiny!

If you have questions - feel free to ask! If you'd like to poke around on Dreamwidth, feel free to log in over there using OpenID! Even if you think you'll buy/get an account there, b/c the current plan is to be able to convert the OpenID account to an actual account w/ a username and all the other shiny features available on Dreamwidth!

Does this mean that I will be leaving LJ or IJ? Not for the foreseeable future, no. Dreamwidth plans to have cross-posting ability, so that will, most likely happen, at least for a while. But a lot of my friends are on LJ and IJ and, unless they all hot-foot it over, LJ and IJ will still be places I hang out. Plus, I have some things I still do in both places for now. Have to see what happens after Open Beta Launch!
