Musics: Meatloaf, this song of yours - "If I Can't Have You" is lovely, but your drums and cymbals are so loud that I can't hear Mr. Laurie's beautiful piano playing all that well. This makes me sad, b/c I like piano music. And I especially like Mr. Laurie tickling the ivories. It's a thing. So, this song would be lovely 'unplugged'. XD

Houses: Dear Fox/Universal/et al - as lovely a birthday present as House, MD Season Six on DVD would be, it would be far lovlier if the season wasn't so damned disappointing. Please to be trying harder next year.

I'd like to know how a season starts off so epically awesome (hello, "Broken pts 1 & 2" that were gorgeous), then spend the rest of the season sinking into the abyss? "Teamwork" was an okay episode and the ending was really good (except the part where $teammember left), but with $teammember's reappearance in "Lockdown" (which was not as epically awesome as you think it was, despite Mr. Laurie being behind the camera), the season stooped to nearly shark-jumping depths. Not a stellar season by any stretch - though I kept hoping - so, not the best birthday present ever.*

Butchers: have a Nook? Or the B&N e-reader app installed somewhere? Then head off to your local B&N store before 30 May 2010 to get a code for a free download of Storm Front - book one of the Dresden Files! =) It's shiny! And this week w/ the code - it's FREE! Alas, it's also probably US or North America only.

However, for those outside the US, Amazon offers the first 11 books for Kindle (AFAIK) and I've also heard/read that Amazon and Penguin got the bugs out of their butts and Changes (book 12) will be available for Kindle again soon.

* House S6 releases on DVD on my birthday this year - thank you so much Fox/Universal... ugh

Rockapella has a free download on their website for Valentine's Day: "Cupid"

It'll ask for your e-mail, but that's just for sending the download link.

The song was recorded live at the concert at George Mason University and features Steve Dorian - the new tenor for the group. (I'm starting to have a hard time keeping up with the guys in the band now. sheesh!)

...oh - it's The Who. Which is just so sad. :(

The Who was the half-time show at the Super Bowl. They sounded awful. I don't watch the game, but I could hear when the half-time show started and I am so disappointed.

Roger Daltry was okay, in the 'we'll cut you some slack b/c you probably haven't performed on stage in years and don't have the lung capacity you had thirty years ago' way, but, still not good. A touch off-key a lot of times.

But Pete Townsend? Oh man was he bad. I've never thought he was a good singer anyway, but then this? Was just terrible. He was off-key all the time and off-tempo about 90% of it. If he wasn't playing guitar, he'd be useless up there.

I want to know the thought process behind this choice. My guess is, 'hey, we have 3 CSI shows, all of which use songs by The Who as their themes, and the 'Bowl's on CBS, so we'll get The Who to come sing all those theme songs... plus "Pinball Wizard" just for fun.' Bad choice. Okay idea, bad choice. They needed some serious rehearsal time and practice singing on-key and on-tempo.

I love The Who, but that was just so disappointing.

No, no hockey photos yet - they're coming. Had to have the film processed - OMG! YES! I still use ordinary film! B/c I can't afford a digital SLR just yet... not even with the Canon Loyalty program... (unless someone wants to happily slip me $300USD *g*). Anyway - hockey photos forthcoming. Possibly as early as later tonight.

Rockapella [see http://www.rockapella.com for details if you're not overly familiar with the group] has had another line-up change. They seem to do this every now and then, so it's becoming kind of familiar, but it's still a rough gig, since they seem to have lost/gained a member every year for the last couple here lately. There are now zero remaining originating band members since Elliot Kerman left last year (or the year before, I can't remember exactly). Which is kind of sad, but the group still knows how to put a tune together!

Personally, I still miss Sean Altman. I *love* his vocal range and the quirky lyrics he puts together. (He's off doing his own solo thing, but it's just not the same - see http://www.seanaltman.com for his solo work.) He's one of the founding members, along with Kerman and a couple other guys whose names I don't remember. When I first saw the group it was the line-up of Altman, Kerman, Scott Leonard and Barry Carl, with the later addition of Jeff Thacher (no 't' in the middle! *g*) when they were on Where in the World is Carmen Sandiego (WITWICS after this, b/c OMG so long to type!). Altman left shortly after WITWICS was canceled, so they brought in Kevin Wright. A couple years back Carl left and they brought in George Baldi (who has a wicked-awesome deep bass voice), then Kerman left and in came John K. Brown - who I haven't actually heard sing much yet. Now Wright's leaving and Steve Dorian is coming on board. I can't say much about him b/c all I have to go on is the latest version of "White Christmas" Rockapella has up on their website.

The link for that is here: White Christmas video and MP3 download. That's right - you can even download an MP3 copy of it! =)

If their nearest concert to my location hadn't coincided with my Stars game, I might have gone to a concert too. Dammit, why does everything I wanna do always happen all at the same damn time? C'mon planning people - spread shit out so I can do more stuff and have more time between things to find the funds!

Anyway - enjoy Rockapella's "White Christmas", and if anyone's interested in sampling other Rocka-goodness, let me know and I'll dig up some links. XD

ETA b/c I have goldfish-brain today: I've also created a feed for Rockapella updates: [syndicated profile] rockapella_news_feed

All proceeds go to charity - why? B/c it's the 'Hoggin' All the Covers' album by Band From TV.

Details here!

So, if you don't have it and you'd like to, TODAY 21 October* ONLY it's $1.99

Snap it up before the deal's over. =)

It's a really fantastic album and the band had a lot of fun putting it together.

Band members: Greg Grungberg, Bob Guiney, Hugh Laurie, James Denton (I keep wanting to type him as 'Jamie' since that's who he was on The Pretender - I'm trying!), Bonnie Sommerville, and a host of others. It's a big ole celebrity band for charity!

* ETA: fixed the date b/c I obviously have NO idea what day it is!

The Beatles (anything except 'Come Together' - got several of those already)
The Rolling Stones
