Chocolate Cake -
Mar. 20th, 2010 10:21 pmI was tasked with making my nephew's birthday cake and as I'm now summarily opposed to using boxed mixes, I did some FoodNetwork.com surfing.
I came across this recipe: Chocolate Cake Recipe - yup, the name's that simple. The batter is really runny, so I ended up turning the oven back by 50 degrees and letting it bake a bit longer than suggested.
Then, b/c nephew had to have chocolate frosting on the cake, I did another search and found "PERFECTLY CHOCOLATE" CHOCOLATE FROSTING - it's after the cake recipe. It makes a 'pourable' frosting that slides over the cake nicely and is very chocolatey.
The cake itself really doesn't *need* frosting (in fact, the recipe calls for dusting with powdered sugar), but I have yet to meet a 9 y/o who will eat cake w/o frosting (and
katernater says she's not met a 25-y/o who will eat cake w/o frosting *g* - though, there's me - I'm not a frosting fan, but I liked this frosting).
On top we had race car candles and chocolate race cars we'd made with a candy mold. They're not bad, but I'd like to find a candy chocolate that has better texture and flavor if we plan to try that again.
